Wow…
Delhomme just threw his 3rd interception and Arizona has possession in Carolina territory.
Game Over.

Wow.
Arizona can put up points, so Carolina didn’t need to give them the ball.  Three turnovers by Jake Delhomme…  That could easily make the difference in this game.  Kudos to Arizona for capitalizing on the opportunities they’ve been given.
Carolina better get their act in gear or they’ll be watching the rest of the post season from home.  Carolina has maybe six possessions or so and they need to score touchdowns on three to get ahead of Arizona.  And hope the Cardinals don’t put any more points on the board.  The Carolina defense had played the run well, but they need to contain Fitzgerald – that guy is a freak – and get pressure on Warner.  Warner has demonstrated a tendency to implode once he hears footsteps.

2009 NFL Playoffs

Love the playoffs this year.
  • Two great turn-around stories in Miami and Atlanta.
  • The Cardinals get their first home playoff game since before my wife was born and their first playoff victory since before my father was born.
  • Miami reintroduced the wildcat formation back to the NFL this year and brought that scrappy, however-we-can-score mentality with them into the playoffs.  Unfortunately, it didn’t get them beyond the Wild Card round.
  • The Wild Card round had some pass-wacky oriented teams.  But those teams are getting winnowed out in favor of ball possession teams with solid defense.

I would have loved to see Denver make it in and it was too bad Seattle didn’t show up for work this year.  But we’ve got a good chance for another Super Bowl with fewer than 40 total points, which is the kind of game I’d like to see.

Finishing up the Baltimore @ Tennessee post and this game just started.  I didn’t even have time to post before Carolina scored.
Arizona had the advantage of playing in the NFC West this year where everyone imploded.  Arizona just imploded the least.  I’m happy for them for getting their first playoff win since before my father was born.  But their record on the East Coast is well documented.  Their run will end today.  The best they can hope for is an offensive shootout
Carolina is unpredictable.  But they are the only team with an undefeated record at home.  Carolina hosted Arizona earlier this year and I think played down to the Cardinals, narrowly pulling out a victory.  I don’t think it will be that close today.  Could be something like a 38 to 20 Carolina victory.  Regardless, I don’t see Carolina beating the East opponent they’ll face next weekend.

Weird…Windows Live Spaces doesn’t have a sports category for blog entries.
Unfortunate game today for Tennessee who had every opportunity to win and win decisively.  The Titans were undisciplined drawing 12 flags from the officials – something like 4 offsides penalites and three unsportsmanlike conduct calls.  Unacceptable.  Three turnovers on the Baltimore side of the 50 and a missed field goal…  You only get so many opportunities to win a football game.  All of this could have been overcome if Chris Johnson hadn’t left the game with an injury.
The Ravens played a tight game.  I’d like to see Flacco throw with a little more accuracy.  If he does, the Ravens will be a very tough team to beat.  Regardless, their turn-over generating defense showed up again and really prevented Tennessee from taking advantage of their monopoly of the football in the first half.  The Ravens will really play their opponent hard in the championship game.  They are on fire and playing with a lot of passion.

I’ve been a Pittsburgh fan for over 25 years since back in the first grade.  It was one of those silly things kids do; pick a favorite team off the side of a lunch box.  I picked Pittsburgh, received criticism from my classmate, and have stuck to my guns ever since.  I live in Seattle.  The past couple of years have been pretty exciting and this year topped them all.  The excitement of living in a town with a championship contender is something that needs to be experienced to appreciate.  So, I was torn in this game.  I really just wanted to see a competitive game with a clear winner.  Unfortunately, this game did not deliver.

If you have ever played a console football game (Madden is my choice), you should understand my analogy. The game felt like I was playing Seattle against Pittsburgh on the All-Madden difficulty level.

Seattle did not play up to the level they could have.  Pittsburgh capitalized when they needed to.  Both teams made some good plays and missed some opportunities as happens in any football game.  Ultimately, however, this game was decided by a handful of officiating calls that were questionable at best.  What made it worse was that all of these calls influenced plays in the end zone or around the goal line.

What we are left with is a Super Bowl victory that felt awarded rather than earned.
