Just a quick post to keep my streak alive…

Played a few games of FIFA Soccer 09 today…not enough to keep the six-games-a-day, done-in-twenty-days pace going to finish out The Peterson achievement.  I am six point ahead of Wycombe in the table for the league cup though, and with five games to go!

My wife and I also saw The Constant Gardner.  She liked it more than I did.  Just too deep a conspiracy to be fully believable for me, I didn’t like Tessa’s quest for martyrdom, and I didn’t appreciate Justin just sort of lying down at the very end of the film.  Great plot though.  Worth the watch.  Beware the political undertones however, if you are watching with mixed company.

Theme of the day.

I got in several games of FIFA Soccer 09 today.  I’m at 1200 minutes (20 hours) remaining on The Peterson achievement.  My club, Chester (in Coca Cola League 2) has distanced themselves from the rest of the field except Wycombe.  Everyone else is out of contention after my last win.  Additionally, my club is now rated with two stars.  I’ve come a ways from the half star rating at the beginning of the season.

I also watched the women’s World Cup match – US vs. France.  The US needs more control in the midfield but the defense did a great job holding off all the French attacks.  I haven’t seen Japan play but they did beat Sweden today, who of course beat the US last week in the last match of the group round.  Looking forward to a great match this Sunday.

I wasn’t feeling well this morning with a migraine, so I skipped work.  I felt better in the afternoon and did some chores around the house while I watched stage 10 of the Tour de France.

I played a little FIFA Soccer 09 before dinner.  I also played some more after dinner and a movie.  I’m working on The Peterson achievement – play 50 hours of games. I’ve got about 20 hours to go.  It’s pretty exhausting but I just need to think of it in one-hour increments.  If I do that, I could have it done in three weeks.  Trouble is, I lose focus and move onto another hobby.

Tonight’s dinner movie was Battlefield: Los Angeles.  It’s a rather silly name for a movie but it was very good; probably the best movie I’ve seen this year.  It’s a war movie with an alien invasion as the back drop.  I think it’s got a lot in common with movies like Saving Private Ryan and Blackhawk Down.

I was finally able to watch the US match against Brazil.  Pretty intense match.  About as dramatic as it gets.  A few observations:

  • As good as Abby Wambach is supposed to be (I don’t watch a lot of women’s soccer), she seemed to flop a lot in the match.
  • Marta is talented but a bit of a whiny bitch.  If she could keep her head, she would be ten times as dangerous.
  • Carli Lloyd should have been called for a hand ball.
  • But…Rachel Buehler was called for a somewhat ticky-tack call in the box that led to a penalty for Brazil.
  • What the fuck was up with that second PK?
  • Holy crap was that a poorly officiated match.
  • Great second goal by Marta.
  • AWESOME equalizer by Wambach.
  • I think the better team won.

Wow…another busy day.

I woke up earlier today as my wife and I had plans.  I did get a few matches in with my FIFA Soccer 09 team (Chester in the Coca-Cola 2 league – looking for promotion).  I won my first 1-0 and lost my second 1-0.  I’m now 1-2-2 with three goals in my last five matches.  Something has got to change there but I’m still at the top of the table.

Plans…my wife and I hooked up with some friends, another couple.  Julie works at Chateau St. Michelle – well technically this is her last weekend – and her husband, Shane, and I work together.  So, we got in on a members tasting and had several tastes.  We wound up picking up seven bottles of wine, several Rieslings and a few Merlots.  We picked up lunch on the way home for the family and after we finished that took a nap.

After waking up, I wanted to take advantage of the rest of the sun for the day and went on a bike ride.  Did a 21 mile loop with some killer hills in about an hour and 40 minutes.  (Boy my legs are tired!)  It was a gorgeous day and a great ride.

The family had a light dinner because of the late, heavy lunch.  My girls have been working coloring and building Adventure Time 3D paper dolls while watching Adventure Time while Jen watched over them and did her web surfing thing.  I wrapped up my day with a new PC game – Neverwinter Nights 2.

I made a paladin (naturally, for those that know me).  It’s a pretty interesting game so far in the tutorial.  Gonna win that Harvest Cup!

The final score (Inter 3 – Palermo 1) did not reflect the action in the game; certainly not the way the UEFA Champions League championship game did.  Palermo certainly looked the better side during this match.  They were simply unable to capitalize on their chances.  Inter, on the other hand, were clinical scoring quickly when the opportunity presented itself.

The officiating was fair, though there was a missed call that set Palermo up with a corner that led to their only goal.

I’m really happy for Inter.  It’s been a fun year – my first following the club.  Hoping for a good transfer window ahead of another great year this fall!
